The game rules

Video-poker Jacks or Better is a game with the aim to collect cards corresponding to one of many winning combinations. In video-poker Jacks or Better, a game is conducted with a standard pack of 52 playing cards. Jacks are components of some combinations in this video-poker.

Description of the machine

In the upper side of view field Player can find a table of winning combinations and payouts for them. The payments depend on the quantity of a bet that was made (from 1 to 5). Cards of Player are shown in the central part of the machine. Five buttons "HOLD" that permits Player to choose the necessary cards are disposed right under the display. The face value of coins for a bet (0.01, 0.25, 0.50, 1 or 5) can be chosen by the help of switches in main lower menu. Other control buttons are:

  • "CASHOUT" — button returns money from the machine on account of a Player
  • "BET ONE" — button increases a bet by one coin
  • "DEAL" — button will begin a new game if the previous one has completed or will exchange all non-marked cards if a game is in progress
  • "MAX BET" — button places on a game 5 coins of a chosen value
  • "GAMBLE" — button starts a double game

Bets

Player can put for the game from 1 to 5 coins of face value of 0.01, 0.25, 0.50 cents, $1 or $5. Respectively, a total sum of a bet on one game can not be less than 0.01 cent and more than $25.

Course of a game

When bets are made, Player presses the button "DEAL", as a result of this initial combination, five cards will be opened. Having been acquainted with them, a Player makes the decision as to which cards must be retained and which must be exchanged in order to compose or strengthen a winning combination. In order to retain a card, it is necessary to press on the button "HOLD" under the card or on the card itself. If a Player changes his (her) mind and decides to retain the card reserved before, he (she) must only press the button "HOLD" again (or press on the card itself) and a previous action will be cancelled.

When the necessary cards are chosen, Player must press the button "DEAL" and he (she) will receive new cards instead of those ones which he (she) decided to reserve.

Note: a Player can exchange cards only once during a game. If a winning combination falls after the cards were distributed for the first time, slot machine will suggest to "hold" these cards instead of a Player. If Player does not want to retain the same cards, he can only press on the button under the marked card or click on the card itself and reservation will be cancelled.

If Player receives a winning combination he (she) can take his winning immediately having pressed the button under a title "CASHOUT" or continue game. To continue game one must press the button under a title "GAMBLE". After that Player receives five cards and one is face up, rest four cards are face down. He (she) must guess the card (among the four closed cards), which is greater than the opened one. Having pressed the button under the chosen card, if the face value of the chosen card proves to be more than the face value of the opened one, a game on chances will be considered to be won with a sum of winning doubles and another game on chances (the button "OK" or "Gamble") will be offered to a Player. If face value of the chosen card proves to be lower or if it is equal to the face value of the opened card, game on chances will be considered lost. In this case Player loses entire current winnings and can begin the current game again. When doubling, 'two' is considered to be junior (the least significant), 'Ace' is considered to be senior (the most significant). Suit does not matter. We draw your attention to the following: if you receive a joker, you lose game on chances.

Payoff table is above the cards.

Poker combinations of video-poker Jacks or Better are following:

  • Royal-Flush - five highest cards of the same suit, beginning from 10 (A-K-Q-J-10).
  • Straight Flush - five consecutive cards of the same suit. For example, all spades 4-5-6-7-8.
  • Four of a kind - four cards of the same face value (rank). For example, 10-10-10-K-10.
  • Full house - three cards of the same rank and two of another rank, for example, 6-6-6-K-K.
  • Flush - any five cards of the same suit. For example, all spades 2-9-J-3-K.
  • Straight - five sequential cards, for example, 9-8-7-6-5. Suits of the cards do not matter. 'Ace' can act both as the most significant card (A-K-Q-J-10) and as the least significant card of combination (5-4-3-2-A). Sequence with 'ace' inside (in the middle) (3-2-A-K-Q) is not considered to be 'Straight'.
  • Three of a kind - three cards of the same rank and two cards of any other rank, for example, 9-9-9-Q-4.
  • Two pairs - two cards of the same rank and two or the other one plus one any card. For example, A-A-5-5-10.
  • Jacks or Better - combination of a pair of jacks or cards senior by rank (queens, kings, aces) plus three any other cards. Pairs must be of the same rank. For example, K-K-10-8-Q.
